Dye Dreams arose from the collaboration between two fiber friends, Stephanie and Mona. We met in 2005 when a weekly knit night was started at the local Starbucks and have regularly knit together since. We would also occasionally get together for dye “play dates” that invariably led to discussions about how fun it would be to do this as a business. In 2007 the New England Textile Arts group announced an essay contest for budding fiber arts businesses to win a free space in the Mercantile at their annual SPA Knit and Spin Weekend in Freeport, Maine. The contest encouraged us to take our fiber passion and dreams for a hand-dyed yarn and fiber business one step further and we entered the contest with a business concept and a few samples. We emerged as the winning entry and on February 23, 2008, Dye Dreams became a reality when we launched our business at the SPA Knit and Spin Weekend in Freeport, ME. The response to our products was overwhelmingly positive and we sold nearly all our stock in just one day. We received similar responses at Connecticut Sheep, Wool and Fiber Festival, Maine Fiber Frolic and Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival. Our goal is to inspire fiber artists to use a variety of fiber blends while having fun with luscious color palettes.
